Yes you can. The difference is a cross frame probably accommodated a wider tire. Just make sure your brake pads touch the rims properly and then go play.

I agree with hairnet. Get up on that stem and stop pedaling. It was way outside my comfort zone, but then so was first learning to ride. I recommend a wet road, or a sandy alley...anywhere you've got...

I honestly do not have the skills to ride brakeless safely. I live in the mountains and coming down passes is sometimes spooky if it's wet, or gritty, or both. Also I am sometimes just plain tired.
