yep the Nova sounds perfect. They're great bikes, cost even less if you hit up their auctions on ebay. Light at 24lbs and 7sp for the hills. I'm a 5'2 100lb female and I can carry it with one hand...

I have a Downtube 8H (similar to the 9FS) and it can be rolled while folded too, so keep that in mind. However, the Nova sounds perfect for you.

the Downtube Nova should be perfect for your needs, and fits in your budget - $299 on the downtube site, or less at their ebay auction. Much better bang for your buck than Citizen, and lightweight.

I just roll it or place it in a shopping cart. bring a bag (even a trash bag) to cover the bike if you think they won't let you in. otherwise - just dont bring your folder.

chucky showed me how to roll my Downtube and its been pretty easy to move around so far. sometimes when I'm not paying attention i'll lock the wheels up but otherwise its smooth rolling.

well Downtube parts aren't proprietary so the bikes are easily upgradable. The 8H sounds very suitable for the commute you described, but the Nova and Boardwalk don't.

congrats!! just got my 8H too! looking for it to replace my roadie as an all-around commuter. the silver looks more gray but otherwise i'm happy.
