No, it is just a trick of parallax. the mount is in the same position. you can reach around from the drops keeping your thumb hooked and shift the lever in but it is easier to just ride the hoods. ...

I know they need to go low but it was a bit excessive on the moto. I think the long forward sweep of the fork (compared to newer bikes) rotates the fender back and down a bit more than it should...

I know it is not a Mtn bike but it was a flat bar that I converted to drops. and I also made my own "retroshift" type mounting brakets for the shifters. I haven't been able to put many miles on it...
