8 speed Campy here. Couldn't get the 8 speed indexed levers to work. The 7 speed levers I'm using have to rotate 180 degrees to engage low gear!

Thankfully I never need low gear...yeah, right.

I tried to ride one in a 'busker' type scenario as I described above ($5 for three attempts.) I had a theory if I kept the bike dead straight I wouldn't need to steer....

Iím no engineer, but the down tube is in tension, so a cable can do the job a tube can do and be much lighter. The trade off is lateral stiffness, which isnít as big of a deal in a time trial.
