In my fleet, chain stay length is a major determinant of chain life. A shorter chain has to operate over higher angles between the chainrings and cassette and seems to wear faster for that reason.

Ice and elevation for 24 hrs, then heat. Best thing is a microwaveable heat pack. Do it as often as possible. Then ice each time you retraumatize it. Nonprescription pain meds will be fine.
