Steve, have you checked the Shimano website for your application? Maybe the ST-EF51 will not work,
but a different set of shifters will.

I have the same problem with my 2014 Cypress DX. It came with Sram MRX grip shifters as well. I hate them for the very same reasons as Comet does. I now see the 2015 model comes with EF51 EZ...

I hope someone can shed some light on why these spokes are laced this way. Is there a benefit to it, or is it more of a hazard. The bike they're on is a Trek 7700.
