If it were a road bike, you'd probably be fine, but throw in the unknown terrain factor and you may be caught without enough gears. I'd either grab an 11-32 cassette or a 42t chainring.

I don't think you want to be clear coating firearms. Just reblue and keep well oiled. Invest in some moisture-absorbing packs to keep in storage with your guns. Know Browning sells them.
