No I didn't replace the bottom bracket. There was a washer between the left crank arm and the bottom bracket on my LX, but my SLX didn't even have it in the package so I am guessing it wasn't needed....

A physical trainer would be good for staying shape which I am already doing, however most of them probably aren't to good on how to stay in cycling shape which is hard to do if your not on the bike.
