No, it was factory spec. I found the Schwinn specs somewhere online when I had mine. They went to 126 mm in 1985. The red frame is 1984.

That's a nice bike. I had one and would consider getting another. The paint on mine was really nice and looked great in the sun. FYI - the rear spacing is 120 mm on these.
