cut and relocate/reweld that top tube and give it a sex change. Then you'll have easier access to the water bottle cage too. If you like the bike that much, it's worth the mod.

those are definitely American Classics circa late...

those are definitely American Classics circa late 80s. I have a front wheel built up with that identical hub. They advertised them as "Smooth as Campy". And they were. They last forever.
