I know I can't get the axle to get bigger, but I wonder if there is a way to reduce the 15mm fork hole smaller to 12mm with some thru-axle adapter.

I did think of that as another option as well. But I wonder how much a carbon fork runs for? It may get a bit too expensive just to get my favorite wheels working.

Those adapters run the 12mm axle through 15mm hubs. My problems is the opposite - to make the 15mm axle run through the 12mm hub. Sigh!

If the 11-speed cassettes are designed to have the width, the only limiting factors are your smallest and largest cogs. The largest cog defines your chainlength....
