I see. The SKS fenders mentioned above have a break away feature to prevent such disasters. Hope they fit the bike cause that sounds like a good feature to have.

The ones on my '86 Ironman have ridges for grip that i find to be uncomfortable. I'm used to textured shimano hoods.
