Since I changed to these HED plus 5 wheels (I think that's the model, carbon with metallic rim for brakes), I have been in fear of getting a flat. I have a hell of a time getting the tire back on...

Ask the LBS to let you try to change a tube/tire on the Carbon rim VS Alloy. That may influence your decision. My HED's are tough to do a flat repair on.
