I wouldn't worry about the shock, just ride the bike until it wears out. I wouldn't put any reley good parts on it, when something breaks just replace the whole thing.

I really prefer a new bike over any used bike. lt Seems like every time I buy used it just needs more cash in repairs. That being said spend the money, if you buy a cheap bike it's easy to ignore it....
