...can be found on sale, 2 to 3mm thickness is a nice middle between cush and feel, not slippery in rain or sweat, white cleans easily and well, wraps easily, not fragile.

Attack the steep bits...

Spin up everything else.

And definitely accelerate over the crest...get up to speed and THEN let the hill do the work.
If you coast after you crest, you're missing out.

Carbon has torque specs. Don't exceed them.
You may need carbon grip paste for seat post clamp/handle bar clamp/stem to fork steerer clamp.

Take note of Chris' warning about reverse threaded...

The drops let you get out of the wind.
On the flat, it's not unusual to gain 1-2mph in the drops vs sitting up.

The flexibility required to use the drops encourages me to stretch and stay...

One Wheelset Option

I switched out my Allez's stock Mavic CXP22 wheels (2011 model, remember) for a set of Campagnolo Zondas for $350 delivered from wiggle.
Saved almost 700g/1.5 lbs over the stock wheelset.
