A huge reason being that if I need to adust the brakes on the trail, I can just twist the two dials, and *BAM* all done.

Easier than V-Brakes in that sense!

I use half fingered Specialized Pro roadbike gloves, they're very tough and comfortable, have that nice soft fabric on the outter thumb/side of hand area for whiping sweat/blood/grease/what have you....

I'd suggest the Dawg line... they seem to be the best crossover between XC effeciency and Freeride toughness. They'd be better on the trails than the Coiler and its buddies, but wouldn't be as tough...
