I think enamel is better. i work at a body shop and im pretty sure the dupont/nason clear we use is enamel. i could be wrong and im sure if i am someone will correct me.

i dont think it will be fully pretected and will either rust or just flake off. you generally need to etch prime Bare metal for the clear to adhere.

might last a few months.
