IDK I do think Sram is kinda nifty and somehow more fitting (for me) on a race bike. I like that it's light and that you can pull the shifter paddle closer while in the drops. Helps w my small hands....

MTB rules. I would agree with your assessment about cost though. Make sure you get tubeless, hydraulic disc and 1x shifting. Your looking at like 1k (new) to get into the bottom of that market.
