There are retrofits available for the left linkage from BikeSmith Design (http://bikesmithdesign.com/) and they are quite reasonable price wise. It's essentially a ShimaNO 3-speed shifter linkage...

BG, that size should work well for you. The hub is a SA S5. I don't think I've ever seen one on a rod brake roadster... I'd be interested, but not at that price. Also, I'm guessing it's from the 70's.

Ian, I'm about 5'9" and ride somewhere around 21"-23" or 54-58cm frames. If you're 5'10" inches, you're going to be a bit cramped with that frame in my opinion, unless you have really short legs. ;)...
