This turned out to have been the problem. Exactly. I pulled the new inner cables, and sure enough, they showed signs of wear just at the point where they pass through that metal cable guide...

Yup. This is what I had on hand. I also had the choices of gold, yellow, or pink. If I choose to keep and upgrade it, this bike will receive a white saddle and white bar tape.

This one followed me home tonight. My size with original bars included. This may get MicroShift R7s over the winter. Minimal wear on the rims.
