1990 World Sport actually came with a 7 speed HG cassette according to the brochure. And for sure I think it’s possible to find one for cheap or free, especially in a big city like Norfolk.

You don't really want to worry about the cassette you have now; from a financial standpoint you are better off sourcing an entire new rear wheel + new cassette/freewheel. The Sun CR-18 posted above...
