On a more serious note I played with the tension and it seems to be running better now. No more grinding, crunching sound. Thanks everybody for your help!

Just ride the look pedals with regular shoes. I ride a 8.5 mile round trip every morning on platforms because carrying an extra pair of shoes gets old really quick.
