I'm sorry, what are IABs?
I haven't raced on the road in about 15 years, so I'm not super up-to-date on current rules, but I've been a bike mechanic for about 25 years. For a long time, the UCI...

Gotta disagree on your examples. Both aerobar bans in mass starts and fixed wheels on the track have nothing to do with the status quo. They are simply about safety. If you've raced on the track,...

In our series in Boise, we do have one limitation- no tires >3" if there's snow on the ground. We had a couple of pretty snowy races last year, and the fat bikes were an unfair advantage.
Every...

It's true that passing was difficult. I missed a 4th place finish because passing safely was tough, although if I hadn't slipped on the bridge, I wouldn't have lost that place to begin with. An extra...

For all around use, I'd probably go with the Clement MXP. Solid tread pattern, and plays well with sealant for those Front Range goatheads.

Well, I have to agree with grolby about the Velocitys being soft. That doesn't necessarily make them bad, especially since PNW courses don't tend to be rocky.
The HED Belgiums build up nicer, but...

Sorry to dredge up such an old thread, but I feel the need to "defend" the bunnyhopper. Let me be clear- he's a good friend and teammate of mine, and I've ridden with him a lot. He's a risk-taker,...

Although I've only ridden it around the parking lot, we recently built a Swiss Cross, SRAM Red 1x10 with a Wolf Tooth narrow/wide ring. It rides really nicely, built up beautifully. If I could...

I had some 42mm Ritcheys on mine. Tire manufacturer's measurements can vary greatly. I probably wouldn't go bigger than about 42mm if there's any chance you'll come across mud.

Here's my "new" bike for this season. It's a NOS Cannondale XTJ frameset. Started life as a complete, but when it didn't sell it was stripped and parts were sold off of it.

I'll pile on. Don't over think your first race. Just go out there a bit early, ride a few laps (also serves as you warm-up!) and have fun!
If you have a spare wheelset, maybe stick them in the pit...

Since you're new to this, I'd recommend the Sora CAADX. Your first season of racing CX will most likely result in broken parts. The Sora stuff is pretty similar to the 9 speed Tiagra from a couple of...

At that price, I'd think you should be able to find a decent used CX bike. The touring geometry isn't going to do you any favo(u)rs.
