That gets my vote too. Silver shimano derailleurs and silver veloce shifters. The end result will look and work great on a pretty slim budget.

Yeah, price seems to be within a few dollars and they are near identical. I opted to support soma/merry rather than QBP but the bars themselves are equivalent.

Haha, that's what I did. I had an alloy group and then aquiered a tommasini with carbon record. The alloy group went on the tommasini and I ended up with a chromeless colnago for the carbon group.

I think the right adaptor and spacers would look alright, but not as good as a quill or true threadless. The saddle and pedals actually draw my eyes more than the stem.

Im going to agree with your assessment. A trimmed steerer, quill stem, and new or cleaned saddle would do it. Clipless pedals would also look more correct, but all in time :)
