I do suggest you be sure the hook is plastic or rubber coated. Bare metal could scratch the carbon fiber if you are in a rush and not careful.

Upgrading to etap is going to cost 2k which is ridiculous IMO.

Both. I expect the newer generation shifters don't eat cables as much as 6700, but I could be wrong. If I knew that a RD cable would not wear out I would be ok with cables.
