My Assos bibs have hundreds of rides and washes on each pair. Still holding up very well. I expect to get another couple years out of them. That would make 5 years on 4 pairs.

Personally I would not go disc unless I could go Di2 as well. Like you OP said, the R8000 hydro levers are ugly. Not an issue with the Di2 hydro levers.
