Yup that's what I'm going to opt for. My crescent wrench is a tad too wide to install the new pedals, so I'll pick up a pedal wrench too. They're pretty inexpensive.

Glad to hear it! The salesman at REI said he has 7 bikes and his lasts about 5 years. He said they have parts to rebuild it so there’s no sense in going for something better.
