I have this exact bike. I converted it to singlespeed and it’s my zippy little daily work commuter. Great bike and I’ve always loved that color scheme.

What size tires are those? I put 700x25 on my Tri-Lite and I don’t think fenders would ever fit.

Revisiting this Technium love

Here’s my Tri-Lite converted to single speed that I use as my daily commuter— only about three miles each way. I will eventually upgrade the wheels but it’s done for now. It’s got a few lost paint...

There is definitely no crack and the gap is actually pretty even— the slight angle of the picture might be misleading. I’m feeling pretty confident the bolt is just too long. It’s the same length as...

I hadn’t thought of that but I was under the impression that grease actually prevented seat post slippage.

I tried the aluminum can shim. I can’t even get one layer of aluminum in there so the seatpost size must be appropriate. I’ll have to wait for the shorter binder bolt to show up and hopefully that...

No, the Thomson is definitely not original. It’s a 26.8. I do not have the original but the only reference I can find to the bike’s original specs are for 26.8. It’s a 1987 Raleigh Technium Trilite....

Well, I imagine the binder bolt might be preventing me from tightening more. As I said, the new one is 19mm just like the original so I’ve ordered a 16mm in hopes of that allowing me to tighten it up...

Its a Thomson Elite seatpost and it’s not a clamp— just a binder bolt. The slot is not closing up all the way.

Locktite on binder bolts - slipping seatpost

Hi all,
I have a seatpost that keeps slipping. I’ve tried liquid torque and I’ve replaced the old binder bolt but it’s still an issue. It’s better than it was but still dropping slightly. The new...

We likely ride very differently. I’m doing all urban riding. I rode a fair amount up until five or six years ago. Now I’m getting back into it— my office is moving at the end of summer and I’ll be...

I do grab the hoods sometimes but not as much as the tops.

I actually do have a 25.4 clamp so I appreciate the info. I’ve been looking at the Nitto b260aa

I’ve been considering that, too, as I also like the added positions. It just seems like a lot of extra handlebar if I don’t go into the drops anymore.

Handlebars and brakes

I’ve finally succumbed to the fact that my back can no longer handle drop bars. Now I’m always riding on the tops and tend to get annoyed when I have to drop down to brake.

I’d like to move into...

Greetings from Phoenix

My office is moving closer to my home in August and I'm very excited to be able to bike commute daily. I've recently gotten my singlespeed back on the road and had forgotten how much I love riding.

I think there's some other quality issues as well. There are definitely manufacturers known for not making the most consistently round chainrings.

Vintage cranksets and bottom brackets

I converted my 87 Raleigh Technium Tri-lite to singlespeed. It rides really nice. I love it and have been meaning to do this for years. I put an inexpensive 46t chainring on it assuming I'll want to...
