My wife has a Neko 2 and we ride trails ranging from hard pack, rail trails and occasionally she will try some beginner single track. We both have MAXXIS Ramblers on our DS's and they have been great.

Yes. 700c and 29er are both 622mm so they are no bigger than what you have. Check the width and depth of rim as your tires may not fit the same, i.e. you don't want a narrow tire with a wider rim....
