Well, this pretty much predated most "Brifter" options to begin with. When you're in the drops, the bar end was pretty sweet, and from the hoods was a lot closer than the DT.

I ran a FD downtube and a bar end RD for Crits in the 80's. Seriously, how often do you really use your FD shifter?
