I did try the 40mm tyres and they were fine. .
I sold the bike on a good while ago, but I don't recall any issues, plenty of clearance for the mudguards.

Early signs are good - there was no noise when I took the bike for a short test ride.

The single "tick" has now progressed to multiple "ticks" and I can feel it through...
