If by "seller" you mean Manitou, then no, unless you believe that you are dealing with a manufacturer's defect. Forks can be finicky, especially older Manitou ones, as somebody already pointed out.

Very cool bike. But I think you should swallow your pride and get a "normal" crankset. A compact double would be great. There's no shame in a wider range of gears. There are longer rides.
