Would it really cost $7k to spec a $5k frame...

Would it really cost $7k to spec a $5k frame versus the $12k complete bike (that will likely have a bunch of parts you'll have to replace anyway, adding to the cost)?

Yes!

I also really want to be able to pick stem, handlebar, and crank lengths. Really hard to consider buying a complete bike when I know straight off I have to immediately replace those three...

I think Specialized already beat you to that punch by discontinuing the Venge altogether for the time being. Buy what THEY want... :D

Silver lining would be that there's no SRAM front derailleur to deal with...
