Nothing wrong with putting fenders on a $4k bike. My "winter / foul weather' bike is in that price range and I tried to find fenders that that would fit to keep my dryer in the rain and snow.

Right or wrong, if as a cyclists, it's your obligation and your benefit to make yourself visible. You have to assume that drivers don't see you or don't care...

Also a bicycle tire does not have the same profile as a car. If you compared it to a motorcycle tire you would of been better off.
