I'm currently using a campy chorus 10 speed shifter with a 9 speed internal ratchet( don't ask, they came that way when purchased off eBay) to run an xtr derailleur on an 8 speed shimano cassette....

Do your first practice lap at 45 psi and adjust up or down from there. Gotta get a feel for it yourself. I don't have experience with that tire but I weigh close to you and always start with 45 psi....

I do ... and that gearing is not that tough. Pretty good for the races around here. I run that or a 39X18, depending on how hilly the course is. Last race I misjudged and felt spun out with 39x18....
