The frame is 50-60 g lighter in a 56cm. Not much, but if you're building a bike without a budget (SRAM etap, carbon aero wheels, etc) that .15 lbs might matter to you.

You're missing the point. People don't finish at an altitude that's 3k ft higher than where they started. Elevation gain is one of the main metrics displayed by strava, veloviewer, etc.

The key will be weight. If like doge says, they are 2lbs or so more than rim brakes, that is a significant amount to overcome.
