I have ridden up to mt Abel before. there is a gate at the bottom but its been open when i went up. Rough pavement but a good climb.

I dont think Red is lighter than Super Record 11 or better... and i use Red.
I think Cannondale and the $ had a big factor in this move.

We were up in Tulare Co earlier this year. Great riding. I can look up the rides on my Garmin if this is in the area you are headed.
Very hilly and beautiful.

You should try to get over to some of the Santa Monica mtns.. Stunt and Piuma are great climbs not too far.
Not sure of a good shop in that area but...

It must have been amazing to be there as one of the most spectacular GT's was going on...

Similar thing happened to me two years ago.. 10 miles in big flat straight road some yahoo skittles the front of the bunch...
Ate it pretty bad, serious road rash,broke two ribs .. off the back.....

I think this is a harder course than punchbowl, but they both bring the pain. 1\2's was painful.. 6 laps.ouch.

Nah, ive done em both and i think Orosi is harder.( just my opinion..). Hamilton is epic, but Orosi just keeps on and on.
Regardless they are both GREAT road races.

Bob is right .. Horseshoe is probably one of the best climbs in the USA.. and the short cut to Whitney makes sense as it removes some of the more boring part of that climb out. That sounds like a lot...

Dammn, you must have loved all those expansion joints heading back up to the climb... think i broke my ribs like 2 months before that race and still felt those.

This is actually a problem, Reynolds crbon clinchers are known to have this happen.
The rim de-laminates or warp's at the breaking surface.
I have also seen the same on an Edge clincher.

Its a great climb. Now Hwy 2 is open i will be able to do one of my favorite loops.. it just wont be the same with all the fire...

i had to run the cables crossed... just to get them to run smooth.
I had a weird set of brakes that had the cable running at an angle that complicated it.
