My '70s Peugeot I'd just open the QR and drop the front wheel right out in less than a second. Then after patching, put it back in, lean on the bars to seat axle properly, close the QR.

Moving from plain ol' forks, to lawyer lipped forks, to threaded thru axles.

2.8 works great on packed MUPs and 4" or so of powder. I haven't tried them on corduroy trails but I imagine 4" tires would be better on them.
