Of course they need to match. And not just the same brand, the levels must be equal (pro, team, LTD). I wouldn't be caught dead riding with zipp bars and a Thompson post.

The 50 chainring provides a much more usable set of gears out back while the 34/28 combo has made steep climbs a bit more...
