At HD or Lowe's you can buy clear plastic florescent tube protectors,slice lengthwise,and install. Plenty strong and you get to see your bike's color thru it!

Lacing pattern limitations

3 cross will make the spokes enter the nipples at a acute angle and can result in them breaking there. With 2 cross lacing the spokes enter much straighter.

Check out Leeds ,based in Utah. I have both 500 Watt kits,on a Mt bike and a tandem.No problems after 2 years and 3k on the single.70 mile range on pas1,plenty of torque for the hills on the tandem.

I just disconnect the cable at the front brake...

I just disconnect the cable at the front brake caliper which allows me to pull the fork for packing. The caliper clamp makes a indent in the cable so its no problem putting it back in place exactly.
