Saved from the scrap yard.

Turned it into a SS with the addition of the proper color rims. Just spent February cruising the trails and roads around Tarpon Springs FL,perfect bike for that terrain....

Top tube protection

At HD or Lowe's you can buy clear plastic florescent tube protectors,slice lengthwise,and install. Plenty strong and you get to see your bike's color thru it!

I put what the tire recommends in,in this case 90psi. I thought about the sanding idea but I doubt I could achieve uniformity all around the rim,there's not much metal to work with.

Lacing pattern limitations

3 cross will make the spokes enter the nipples at a acute angle and can result in them breaking there. With 2 cross lacing the spokes enter much straighter.

Check out Leeds ,based in Utah. I have both 500 Watt kits,on a Mt bike and a tandem.No problems after 2 years and 3k on the single.70 mile range on pas1,plenty of torque for the hills on the tandem.

I just disconnect the cable at the front brake...

I just disconnect the cable at the front brake caliper which allows me to pull the fork for packing. The caliper clamp makes a indent in the cable so its no problem putting it back in place exactly.

So it looks like you will be riding a new bike when we get together this spring . Congratulations. Yes the snow put a damper on biking, but it will be gone by Saturday. Have a fun first ride.
