I assumed this was down to the bottom bracket...

I assumed this was down to the bottom bracket being offset to driveside to allow for the rear wheel to fit between frame and crank. There will be a greater moment to that side.

The main challenge is maintaining a decent fold. I am looking at options using the Tern Andros stem and a T-adapter....

Had the same thing today! Couldn't get the lock to depress and after a bit of fiddling, realised i had started to turn it before it was fully down. Just had to turn back all the way as you say.
