Cramps have nothing to do with heat, hydration, or electrolytes. They are an effect of overuse on muscles or, possibly, their nerve supply.

Not really. With adequate gearing, you can choose exactly how hard or easy you want a climb to be.

And regardless of how easy or hard you're going, it's useful to avoid bottoming out the gearing....

This seems about right. I get about 1000 kj per 30 miles per my SRM. If I go faster over the same distance, the only thing that changes is the time but not the Kj that much.
