I think climbing has more to do with exertion than speed (ie how many watts used to go up a hill on a light bike vs a heavier one).

I have the 5.5, they definitely take some getting used to. Carbon soles are pretty stiff, some people really don't like them. I would figure out which person you are before dropping $300 on something...
