I would suggest you change the rear derailleur...

I would suggest you change the rear derailleur with the crankset. The front der can be on your second stage...my experience is that the rear der is the most important one.

I agree...it all depends on your level of fitness and the duration of your race. You can treat one as a race while the other as a recovery or somewhat a long training session.

That's very true...enabling the arms to "Catch up" adds to the glide of the swim making it longer, and smoother. And yes, the stroke is more effective by enabling you to move farther...

Gooduck...do not get carried away with the speed of others in the swim, swim your own pace...that goes for the bike and run as well. What truly matters is that you finish the race!!!

Total Immersion works well for beginners but when you are training for longer distances and trying to have more speed, conventional swimming with a swim coach could be better.
