I did the After Bridge Run Ride in Charleston last year and there were some great roads on that route. It started at Daniel Island and went inland and through some nice state park area.

Hilly Hellacious has the Bearwallow Mountain climb. It may not be as grueling as some, but it is pretty tough with some double digit grades. Nice decent going into Chimney Rock area afterwards....

I've done this ride a few times. I plan to be there. As for the route, there is one stretch that is on a busy highway. It's near the end, but most of it is back roads, if I remember correctly.
