Neither. The nut is for inflating when there is no air. The cap is for preventing the valve tip from puncturing the tube in storage. Neither are useful when the tube is mounted and inflated.

I hope you replace/repack your BB, wheel bearings, jockey wheels bearings when you are finished, because, more than likely, none of them will have grease after you're done. Just a thought.
