Nothing wrong with a recycled bicycle. My own main ride is a 1988 Trek 900 hybrid that I liberated from a flooded basement before it went to the junkyard. I turned it into a great all-around bike.

I had the same problem when I switched from road bikes to hybrids. And I too solved the problem by adding bar ends. The problem was simply not being able to change hand position.
