The 500 is a nice unit but lacks the navigation function. I think the 605/705 are more of an upgrade to the 305.

I prefer climbing with my road bike mainly because 1) it's easier to shift from the hoods and 2) it has a compact crank. My TT (Orbea Ordu) will not accommodate a compact crankset.
