I used to be a freak about keeping the chain clean, and regularly cleaned the drivetrain with strong solvents. Once I stopped doing that, chain life dramatically improved.

I've used both 25mm tires and 30mm tires(tubeless) on a Trek Domane. There isn't much difference in speed, but the comfort difference is huge.

On rough pavement. 30mm tires are much faster.
