It can't be any worse for unbalancing than those white side reflectors slotted through the spokes of most wheels. Come to think of it, putting the weight opposite a side reflector would actually balance the wheel to some extent, but really it's not worth worrying about, as its weight is tiny compared to the rim, spokes and a hub motor.
